A poem written by David Hanson and Heather O’Connor, both hospitality workers in Glasgow. “We started writing this poem when one of us was riding the bus home and more than half the people on the bus weren’t wearing a mask. It got us thinking about people’s unwillingness to do something so simple even though it protects us all. “
Ye go oot, and naebdy wears a mask
naebdy’s got any fucks tae give
fuck aw in their brains did they amass
their heid’s jist like a sieve
naebdy gies a fuck aboot this hing cawed society
we’re tae busy greetin aboot oorselves
Scotland hinks it’s sae great – it’s nearly pious, see
we’re sae fuu ae it aw, ye cannae get us telt
haud on a second.
’cause for every pint that gawns doon yer gullet
somebdy’s da (is exposed tae covid, or exploitit):
while yer aw in the beer garden, rejoicin
we cannae go back tae normal- sae quit yer moanin!
get them straps aroon yer lugs
an the fabric unner yer een
(it’s the least ye can dae, trust us)
we’ll soon get tae hug, but richt the noo –
yer pure glaikit, and ye’ve aw been seen
