Sonja Coquelin teaches international students in Glasgow. This is her story.
“What I enjoyed about teaching the most was the interaction with the students. I liked being in a classroom, constantly moving about and being surrounded by people. I miss my workplace, catching up with my colleagues in the staff room and chatting to the janitors and cleaners. Switching to online teaching has been rather challenging: I teach from my living room, sitting on a chair and looking at a computer screen. And there’s no one around. I had never taught online before and was told I should just use the whiteboard function on Zoom and embrace this blended teaching/learning experience. I used to like my job, I always tried to make the lessons interesting as I want my students to learn new things and also have fun. As this drawing shows, no one is really having a lot of fun.”
